Educational Researcher’s study on the effectiveness of 1-on-1 tutoring revealed “the average tutored student performed better than 98 percent of the students in the traditional classroom… What was the difference? Personalization.”* Streamline’s tutors start from the ground up and individualize instruction for each student. There is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to test preparation and Streamline ensures that each student is put in the best possible position to succeed.
Concepts – building blocks of the test
To significantly improve their scores, students must review any and all concepts that may appear on either the SAT or ACT. By isolating each concept, Streamline’s tutors are able to identify students’ weaknesses and expose them to the ways concepts they learn in high school appear on the SAT and ACT. The initial concept review phase can vary greatly from student to student; some may need a quick brush up and others need to be taught an entire math topic from scratch. As students solidify their basic understanding of each concept, our tutors incorporate best practices to further bridge the gap between knowledge and test performance.
Best Practices – critical thinking
Best practices are techniques that help students land on the correct answer more quickly, while also avoiding simple mistakes. These techniques are often specific to each concept tested. Therefore, the ability to identify a particular concept allows students to employ best practices and think critically about each question.
Strategy – optimization
A strategic approach to standardized test-taking is crucial when it comes to optimizing a student’s performance on the SAT or ACT. Streamline’s tutors are constantly pointing out ways in which students can work around challenging questions and ultimately move through the test more quickly.
Leading up to the official SAT and ACT dates, Streamline offers full-length official practice tests at our office to simulate the conditions of standardized test-taking. As students become more familiar with the SAT or ACT, they are better able to put Streamline’s best practices and strategies into play. Ultimately, practice tests are the best form of SAT and ACT preparation.
We created smartyreader.com as a supplemental tool to holistically improve our students’ reading comprehension. In conjunction with test prep tutoring, SmartyReader has helped propel improvements on the verbal section of the SAT and ACT far above industry standards.
